The official address of The Alpine Inn is 'Omaha.' However, few people that visit regularly would think of it as an Omaha destination. North of Omaha on the edge of the Ponca Hills community is where you will find The Alpine Inn.

Why I Chose The Alpine Inn

I chose The Alpine Inn in Ponca Hills just North of Omaha for the setting. It's near Omaha but feels like it's in the middle of the hill country. The building looks to have originally been a two-story home that's been added on to a couple times. It blends in with the hill country setting. The vibe is laid back country and the focus is on food, drink...and raccoons! The Alpine Inn should be famous for their fried chicken dinner - and they are - but most people that have visited think of it as the place where there are raccoons eating chicken bones just outside the restaurant and viewable through a large glass window!

Where You Find The Alpine Inn

The Alpine Inn is nestled in the Northeast corner of The Hills sit along the Western edge of the Missouri River just north of I-680. The neighborhood stretches west to Highway 75 and north to the Douglas/Washington County line. It's primarily hilly terrain full of wilderness, parks, agriculture and family homes. The official address for The Alpine Inn is 10405 Calhoun Rd, Omaha, NE 68112.

Must Try Menu

The Alpine Inn is known for fried chicken dinner and I have to agree that on your first visit that is the place to begin. The chicken tender basket is also delicious and I recommend the pork tenderloin sandwich. It's a biggie and it's delicious! The menu has many other choices, all of which I am sure are fine. I am too fond of the chicken dinner and pork tenderloin to even attempt the other menu items.

The people

On your visit to The Alpine Inn you'll see Ponca Hills locals that stop by for a drink or bite to eat, and you'll find friends from across the greater Omaha area as well as from across the Iowa border. Everyone has something in common. Either they couldn't pass up one of the best hot, fresh chicken dinners around, or they needed a raccoon fix - or both!

Good food at a reasonable price with a unique twist. That's the beauty of the heartland after all!
